My grandfather once told me that each angler must pass through four stages on his path to fishing enlightenment: any fish, many fish, big fish, and hard fish. To start, a fledgling angler is happy to catch anything with fins. Then, he feels that filling his cooler with meat will prove his skill. Next, the angler becomes obsessed with only catching trophies. Finally, the master angler sets his sights on species of fish and methods of fishing that are so difficult that just pursuing them is satisfaction.
